Tens of billions
of dollars investment in project, as an important milestone;
· World-class new
integrated production base, with top technology and in compliance with the
highest safety and environmental standards;
Construction of the first batch of facility will
begin, which will be used to produce engineering plastics and thermoplastic
polyurethanes, to serve multiple main industries;
A few days ago, BASF's New Integrated Production Base (Verbund) project
with a total investment up to $ 10 billion was officially launched in
Zhanjiang, Guangdong, and the construction of the first batch of facilities
began. This is a major milestone for the project since it was announced in July
2018.
The first batch of equipment of the project will be used to produce
engineering plastics and thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), to meet the needs
of customers in a number of growing industries in South China and throughout
the Asian market.
Dr. Martin
Brudermüller, Chairman of the Executive Board of BASF Europe, said: "I am
delighted that BASF has made progress in this major investment project in
China. We are committed to supporting our customers in South China and bringing
them innovative products and solutions. "
Dr. Martin
Brudermüller also added that, "By adopting cutting-edge technology and
following the highest safety standards, the new integrated base will become a
model for sustainable production and help China's circular economy development."
Dr. Stephan Kothrade,
President of BASF's Asia Pacific (Functional Management) and President and
Chairman of China, said: "Zhanjiang is an excellent choice for BASF to
further strengthen its domestic production capacity in China. Our new
integrated production base will become the cornerstone of Zhanjiang's
world-class industrial cluster and provide strong support for BASF's business
development in South China and the Asian market. "
By 2022, the
equipment capable of new engineering plastics modification will contribute
60,000 tons of modified engineering plastics products to China each year, and
increase the total output of BASF ’s modified engineering plastics products in
Asia Pacific to 290,000 tons. In this way, BASF will better meet the growing needs
of customers, especially in the automotive, electronics and new energy vehicles
industries.
BASF plans to use
cutting-edge technology at this integrated base to fully implement the concept
of smart production. The new base will also use technologies such as automated
packaging, high-tech control systems and automated guided vehicles.
BASF's integrated
base will also contribute to the development of local communities in Zhanjiang.
The companies are cooperating with local technical schools and other units as
strategic partners to cultivate professional talents.
BASF's wholly-owned
subsidiary BASF Integrated Base (Guangdong) Co., Ltd. has also been formally
established. This company is mainly responsible for the operation of the new
integrated base, which reflects BASF's commitment to the Chinese market.
In July 2018, BASF
signed the first Memorandum of Understanding with the Guangdong Provincial
Government in Berlin, Germany, and signed a framework agreement in January 2019
to develop planning details. The Guangdong integration base will be BASF's
largest overseas investment project to date. The total investment is expected
to be up to US $ 10 billion, it will be independently operated by BASF.
Upstream and downstream production units from
basic chemicals to consumer goods will form an integrated value chain to
support growing industries such as consumer goods and transportation. The
Guangdong integrated base will become BASF's third largest integrated
production base in the world, just after bases in Ludwigshafen, Germany and
Antwerp, Belgium. The first unit of facility will be put into operation in
2022, and the entire integrated base is expected to be completed in 2030.
